However, if you're not in that category shopping can be a pain. But that doesn't mean you should forget about it all together. Here are two ways you can save yourself time and money when shopping by avoiding two common two shopping mistakes.

Have a plan: One of the most common shopping mistakes is shopping for the sake of shopping. This causes you to buy items you don't need and can't afford. Each piece you buy is an investment. To help, go through your clothes before hand to see what you really need.

This may involve trying things one and carefully looking at basic items that you need to compliment. For example, you may realize you have lots of jeans but no nice casual tops. Therefore you know jeans aren't on your shopping list but tops are. You don't have to waste time browsing in the jean section and can focus on the items you truly need.

You may also see that most of your clothes are geared towards one season. For example, you have stacks of summer clothes but not too many warmer items. If it's the right season, you can pick up the specific items; however, if the season is out you may have to prolong your shopping trip until you can purchase the items you need.

Shopping for clothes should be similar to shopping for groceries. Make a list, and know exactly what you would like to bring home, so you can get in and out without too much lingering.

Set a budget: Have you ever gone into a store, been asked "what are looking to spend" and answered "I don't know" "It doesn't matter" or thought of a number randomly. This is a typical mistake among un-savvy shoppers.

What you're willing to spend does matter. You should have a clear budget range and it should not be something you thought of on spot.

Your current financial state should be a good indicator of what you can afford to spend. But to further help you set a budget do some quick research to see what items you like, with the features you want, generally cost. Compare high end items to low end ones. Example, if you're looking for a winter coat, consider what materials you like, what features (hood, front pocket etc), and in what color.

Do searches online to find out what stores offer the item, and what the general price range is. You may learn you have to tweak your item preference a bit. If 100 dollars is your budget, you know not to go into stores that sell similar items for more. Having a budget not only lets you go through the rack faster, it gives you power over your purchases.
